SACRED PITT STREET MALL

Pitt Street Mall ( Mid City Centre demolished in 2007)
BRIEF HISTORY
The history and development of Sydney begun with the introduction of tramways in 1861. Pitt Street Mall was the origin of the first horse-drawn tram line operation opened on the 23rd December 1861, between Central (Redfern) Railway Terminal and Circular Quay. (source: "Tramway Workshops, Depots and Substations" March 1994, Auther: Godden Mackay, Heritage Consultants, for the National Trust).
By December 1866, the tramway was so impractical that it was removed, due to protrusion of rail lines causing cumbersome to other roadway vehicles.
